VERTIGO AND BALANCE ISSUES

Vertigo Therapy in Markham

Vertigo is a type of dizziness that is characterized by a spinning or whirling sensation. It can be caused by a variety of factors, including inner ear disorders, vestibular migraines, head injuries, and certain medications. Other symptoms of vertigo may include nausea, vomiting, balance problems, and difficulty focusing.

Vertigo Treatment

Treatment for vertigo will depend on the underlying cause. For example, if the vertigo is caused by an inner ear disorder such as benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), Dr Bennett may perform maneuvers to reposition the tiny crystals in the inner ear that are causing the symptoms. Vestibular rehabilitation exercises may also be recommended to help the brain compensate for the vertigo.

Vestibular Habituation

One common technique that Dr Bennett utilizes is called vestibular habituation. These exercises involve repeating a specific movement or activity that causes vertigo symptoms in order to help the brain get used to the sensation and reduce the intensity and duration of the symptoms over time.

Gaze Stabilization

Another type of exercise commonly used in vertigo rehabilitation is called gaze stabilization exercises. These exercises involve focusing on a stationary object while moving the head or body, which helps the brain learn to stabilize vision and reduce the sensation of dizziness or spinning.

Dr. Bennett’s Neurological Treatment Philosophy

Dr. Bennett has completed a post-doctoral degree in Chiropractic Neurology from the Carrick Institute.
